JACK NICEWANDER, DDS
Dr. Jack has enjoyed dentistry and relationships he’s built with his patients for almost 40 years. He was born and raised in the Castleton area, so it was no surprise that he chose this area to set up his practice. What sets him apart from his colleagues is the desire to treat every patient as he would his own family or cherished friend. With warmth, sincerity, honesty and integrity, he has built a legacy that will be remembered long after he retires from dentistry. He takes great pride in being able to offer patients choices that include technology of the highest quality in an environment that is fun, friendly and inviting. He sounds too good to be true, but once you meet him, you’ll understand why his patients and staff have been loyal to him for so many years.
A doctor’s education should never stop, so Dr. Jack makes it a point to keep up-to-date through countless education courses and every-day experiences. It was through one of these courses that his interest in Dental Sleep Medicine began. For years, patients have asked him to fabricate oral appliances to alleviate snoring because their bed partner couldn’t sleep. Once he learned that frequent, loud snoring is a major symptom of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), his focus changed.
Sleep apnea is a serious health concern and he takes it very seriously. As a dentist, he spends more time in your mouth than any other healthcare provider, and he can see visual signs that might prompt him to ask how well you sleep or if you snore. He has made it his mission to make education, screening, sleep studies and treatment solutions available for every patient at risk for OSA. One of the treatment solutions for some patients diagnosed with OSA is a mandibular advancement splint (MAS), which is a device made by dentists that patients wear in their mouth at night to help open the airway and prevent it from collapsing while you sleep. In many cases, this can replace CPAP therapy. Understanding this important fact answers the question that most patients have, “why is a dentist asking me about snoring”!

Robin has had the pleasure of being a part of Dr. Jack’s team since 1990 as the Practice Manager. Not many people are lucky enough to truly love going to work, but she’s one of them! She has enjoyed getting to know the patients on a more personal level and the relationships she’s built over the years are priceless.
When Dr. Jack began to focus on the sleep medicine portion of the practice, he needed someone to jump in the trenches with him to help educate, screen and treat patients. Always up for a challenge, Robin accepted the offer to spearhead what is now known as Indy Center for Sleep Health. Through education, hands-on training, personal experience and desire to help people, she has become very passionate about making sure our patients are getting the very best care when it comes to sleep health. She knows that with Dr. Jack and our staff’s excellent dentistry we can help patients have healthy teeth and beautiful smiles for a lifetime. By incorporating treatment for dental sleep health, we can now potentially save someone’s life.
Once it has been determined by Dr. Jack or a hygienist that a patient has some symptoms of a sleep related breathing disorder, Robin’s job is to further evaluate the patient to see if there are any risk factors that would indicate a diagnosis of obstructive sleep apnea. She can educate patients regarding OSA, test the airway to determine stability, recommend types of sleep studies, obtain and interpret reports from Board Certified Sleep Physicians, and get medical insurance pre-approvals for treatment. We offer complimentary screening and airway testing for everyone and low-cost home sleep studies so that there are no stumbling blocks in the way of getting diagnosed and treated. Spending 45 minutes with Robin could significantly improve your quality of life if you suffer from an undiagnosed sleep related breathing disorder, so call her today to schedule your appointment!
